So, let's dive in and make sure you're fully prepared for your long-haul flight!

my top 5 items:
1. Travel documents: Ensure passport is easily accessible and safe. Keep a photograph of yours and any family members' passports on your smart phone as a back up. Keep a copy of insurance and destination addresses.
2. Toiletries: Keep essentials that you need for the flight in your hand luggage. I use silicon containers to decanter mine and label for ease.
Keep medication in easy reach also.
All liquids must be under 100ml.
These containers hold a maximum of 90ml
3. Entertainment: To keep yourself entertained and occupied during the flight, come prepared with a selection of entertainment options. In-flight movies not your thing? Load up your tablet,
e-reader, or smartphone with your favourite movies, TV shows, or e-books. If you prefer a more traditional approach, bring along a good book or a travel journal to document your experiences.
Invest in a quality pair of noise-canceling headphones to create your private oasis in the air. These will not only block out unwanted cabin noise but also allow you to enjoy the in-flight entertainment system without any disturbances.
3. Chargers: I am still traumatised by landing in Miami earlier this year with only 18% on my phone having played games on the flight. I then had 3 hours at immigration and a car to rent where I needed to use google maps as sat nav - I arrived at the hotel in tears with 1% left and bought myself a portable charger!
This one is great and I often take it out with me for the day if I know I will taking lots of photos or videos.
4: Comfortable Clothing and Accessories: Dressing appropriately for a long-haul flight is key to maintaining comfort throughout your journey. Opt for loose, breathable clothing made of natural fibers, like cotton or linen, which will help you feel relaxed and prevent overheating. Don't forget to pack a lightweight sweater or shawl to stay warm in the sometimes chilly cabin.
Comfortable footwear is equally important. Slip-on shoes or trainers are ideal as they are easy to take off during security checks or when you want to stretch your feet. Remember, your feet may swell during long flights, so avoid tight shoes or high heels that may cause discomfort. Compression socks are not the most attractive but are always worth getting to keep any swelling down. Please also don't go to the toilet without putting shoes on - I shudder when I see people going into a jumbo jet toilet with bare feet!
5: Hydration and snacks: Airline meals may not always satisfy your cravings or suit your dietary preferences, so it's wise to pack some healthy snacks. Opt for lightweight, non-perishable options like nuts (check with airline for any allergies on board), energy bars, dried fruits, or granola.
Remember to stay hydrated by carrying a reusable water bottle that you can fill up after passing through security. Staying hydrated during the flight is vital to combat the dry cabin air.
A non spill one will keep your belongings safe and these ones keep water hot or cold for hours.
Conclusion: By packing these essential items for your long-haul flight, you're setting yourself up for a comfortable and enjoyable journey. Prioritising comfort, organisation and entertainment will ensure that you arrive refreshed and ready for your trip.
Safe travels!
